€ 1,24 million grant awarded to Micreos-headed consortium
The European Fund for Regional Development and the province of Gelderland will contribute a total of € 1,24 million to a € 2.5 million investment by a consortium headed by Micreos aimed at the expansion of Micreos' industrial scale GMP production facility for phages and endolysins against dangerous bacteria.

USDA Approves LISTEX™ as a processing aid.
USDA-FSIS confirms LISTEX™ is a processing aid for its intended use. The USDA’s decision will enable food processing companies to deliver safer clean label products to the marketplace, without the need for reformulation or compromise on quality. The approval is in line with Health Canada's decision last September to approve LISTEX™ as a processing aid. Please link to the press release or the USDA Agency response letter for more information.

In 2009, European Union countries experienced a 19 percent increase in Listeria infections, which caused 270 deaths.
The European Food Safety Authority and the European Center for Disease Prevention and Control reported on the foodborne illness trends from 27 EU member states for 2009, the most recent year for the data.
EU countries reported 5,550 outbreaks of foodborne disease during the year. In 2009, 108,614 salmonellosis cases in humans were reported.
In foodstuffs, Salmonella was most often detected in fresh poultry and pork.
The number of listeriosis cases in humans increased by 19.1 percent compared with 2008 data, with 1,645 cases in 2009.

SALMONELEX™ against Salmonella receives Temporary Use Exemption.
The Dutch Medicine Evaluation Board (College ter Beoordeling van Geneersmiddelen) has issued a temporary use exemption for SALMONELEX™. MICREOS Food Safety will conduct field trials during 2011 in collaboration with a Dutch integrated poultry processor.
